Bordeaux and its quays
Place de la Bourse, with its Water Mirror at its feet, has become Bordeaux’s signature image: meeting there at dusk, when the classical facades reflect, is an irresistible classic. The Garonne quays, pedestrianised for kilometres, can be walked or cycled all the way to the Pont de pierre. The UNESCO-listed hyper-centre lends itself to long strolls together.
Cité du Vin and the right bank
North of the city, the Cité du Vin, a rippling building on the edge of the Garonne, tells the story of wine from around the world through immersive journeys: an original date, ending with a panoramic tasting at the top. Across the river, the Bastide district offers lovely green banks, perfect for a picnic on summer evenings.
Saint-Émilion and the Médoc beyond
The Gironde countryside holds splendid getaways: Saint-Émilion and its UNESCO-listed medieval lanes, the Médoc and its prestigious châteaux, or the gentle Entre-deux-Mers. A walk among the vines, lunch at a winegrower’s, and the day flies by. On Lyad, members from the Gironde share their favourite routes; it is up to you to find someone to follow them with.
